Recent news

ANZAC Day 2025
It was once again an absolute privilege for HAMST members to be part of this important commemorative event in Hobart. We were able to supply several vehicles and for the first time a WW2 BSA motor bike to lead us into the parade. Our veterans on board the DUKW had an excellent viewing platform during the parade. Special thanks to all our new drivers and supporting crew who participated on the day, your involvement this year what much appreciated especially by the congratulating crowds along the way. Once again our Women at War ladies presented a wreath during the service. Thanks to all.

Chauvel Anniversary Light Horse Memorial ride

On a recent visit to Junee the president and his wife were invited to the local school where a Light Horse display was being presented to the local school children. The riders were travelling from Sheppardton to Tallangatta over two months chatting with students about the fascinating history of Australia Light Horse.

Commonwealth day Reception
Once again it was a privilege for HAMST to be formally invited to his event at Government house. Our President, Secretary and wives enjoyed the company of all who attended and an inspiring presentation from our Governor, The Hon Barbara Baker.
HAMST Annual Trip - Australian War Memorial & Annex
Each year HAMST members have the opportunity to travel to the mainland for a military event. This year we were privileged to attend the AWM and Annex (storage area). It was an incredible few days where members attended two guided tours. The first, the AWM annex, generally not open to the public, which was packed with thousands of military items being researched for placement within the museum at a later date. The second was the museum where our tour guide focussed on our Tasmanian military history. One of the highlights was two of our members laying a wreath representing HAMST at the Last Post Ceremony, very moving!! This trip was truly a fantastic couple of days and our tour guides had an incredible knowledge to share. 2026 were planning a trip to the Tamora air show in NSW - so start saving!

War Animals Remembrance - Campbell Town
Last weekend members once again attended the annual War Animal Remembrance at Campbell Town. With a early start we gave the Landy and Dodge weapons carrier a treat by driving them from Hobart to the event, not a small task at around 70k top speed and with sideways rain along the way, a memorable experience. Once arrived it was great to catch up with our Defence Heritage Transport friends and HAMST members from around the state. The event was well attended with passionate presentations remembering all our animal duties during times of conflict and peacetime support. It would be remiss of me not to mention Teresa Binns, the coordinator of the event for many years who is stepping down this year. She has done a truly sensational job bringing this event to life each year. On behalf of our members we sincerely thank you for all your work.

HAMST Clubrooms Working Bee
From time to time members are rallied to asset with general maintenance at that clubrooms. Last weekend we had a fantastic response and were able to paint our new container, clean out our existing containers, redevelop the Research Group Property and display area and general clean up. It was a very successful day and on behalf of the committee thank you all so much for your time, and humour. Unexpectantly, Robbie supplied home made meat and fruit pies for us to all to enjoy for lunch. Thanks to all.

HAMST Greek Christmas Dinner
Each year the committee hosts a Christmas dinner at the clubrooms which is themed to one of the allies of Australia during WW2. This year we celebrated with our Greek community with a sensational Greek dish, desert and our guest speaker Andonny and family who overviewed the battle for Crete. We had around 40 attend with prizes gifts and military quizzes, all part of the evening. On behalf of the committee thank you all so much for another fantastic night with friends, meeting new friends and heaps of laugh's. On behalf of the committee I wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year with family and friends as we look for ward to 2025. Kind Regards, Steve (President)

HAMST Military History Fair 2024
Thank you all so much for once again making the fair a fantastic weekend. The work that went into the living history displays was sensational and very well received by our visitors. It was a great opportunity to catch up with all our like minded military clubs and create new friendships. Planning is already underway for 2026 which will be another memorable event I'm sure.
